EAGLESHAM IS BORN

The new planned village is established by Alexander Montgomerie, 10th Earl of Eglinton.

1791
SPINNING A YARN

A water-powered cotton spinning mill is established in the village.

FAMOUS FUGITIVE

Rudolph Hess crash-lands his plane at nearby Bonnyton Farm.

  • "I didn't enjoy the lack of facilities back in those days. There were no school dinners, so at lunchtime I had to walk up to the top of Montgomery Street, where I lived, and then back down again."
