A group of interested people attended an open meeting at which Eaglesham History Society was born.<\/p>\n<p>The aims of the Society are to provide knowledge of local and national history, collect and catalogue items of local history and to undertake research into local history. Membership has remained strong in since our founding, with active members from the village and further afield.<\/p>\n<p>Monthly members\u2019 meetings are normally held from September to April each year, at which specialist guest speakers give illustrated talks on a wide range of history-related subjects. Our talks have included\u00a0such subjects as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Glasgow, Paisley and Johnstone Canal<\/li>\n<li>The Vikings<\/li>\n<li>Rosa Parks and Montgomery Bus Boycott<\/li>\n<li>History of Scottish Art<\/li>\n<li>Archaeology of Renfrewshire<\/li>\n<li>Two Planned Communities: Eaglesham and East Kilbride.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Society has also run events in association with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.acfabaseline.info\/\">ACFA Field Archaeology for All<\/a>, local schools, and community events such as history walks around Eaglesham and mini local history exhibitions at Eaglesham Fair and East Renfrewshire Door Open Days. We also work closely with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eastrenfrewshire.gov.uk\/article\/2187\/East-Renfrewshire-Libraries-Heritage-Services\">East Renfrewshire Heritage Centre<\/a>\u00a0and Eaglesham Primary School.<\/p>\n<p>We worked on the <a href=\"http:\/\/new.eagleshamhs.com\/what-is-it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Eaglesham History Project<\/a>, which was supported by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.national-lottery.co.uk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">National Lottery<\/a> through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hlf.org.uk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">National Heritage Fund<\/a>. This had many different strands, including the creation of a song and the recording of local oral histories from the 20th and 21st centuries.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, we produced a documentary film, This is Eaglesham, that was premiered in the village.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row row_type=&#8221;row&#8221;
